Story
Boom? is all hype and little substance. In spite of the 'eye-catching' cast ensemble that includes three sensuous belles ? Padma, Katrina and Madhu Sapre ? Amitabh Bachchan, and the Hollywood stunner Bo Derek, the movie fails to hold the viewer interest.
The movie has a stylish look and captivating music score, but that is all about it. There is too much of exposure (and vulgarity too, thanks to the lewd character Boom Shankar played by Javed Jaffery) that makes the movie unwatchable for the family crowd.
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is made to look like a weirdo in the movie. All-dressed in white, Big B plays the underworld kingpin Bade Mia who delights in reading comics and chasing Hollywood fantasies in his free time. There is a sequence in the movie where the superstar is shown running after Bo Derek. The scene is recreated from Derek?s classic movie ?10?.
Zeenat Aman, who returns to the silver screen after a long sabbatical, is wasted in the role of Bade Mia?s secretary who also does a jig for her boss at times.
Padma Lakshmi is visibly uncomfortable being paired along side Bachchan, while Katrina comfortably carries a single expression throughout the film. Madhu Sapre is just about ok. The three models? contribution to the movie is just limited to glamour and sex appeal.
Fashion designers Tarun Tahiliani, Wendell Rodricks and Rohit Bal, who play cameo roles in the movie, epitomize poor acting.
Jackie Shroff looks dashing playing Chhote Mia, the unrighteous gangster who takes fifty-fifty share in all his deals.
True entertainment comes from Javed Jaffery, who shows his flair for comedy in the role of a smutty character Boom Shankar.
Kaizad Gustad has made a glossy flick, there is no doubt about it. But underneath this gloss and sheen, there is hardly anything in the movie to draw a movie buff to the theatre. However, those who are interested in the skin fest by the three models would find the movie worth watching.
