Story

Vijay Kapoor (Amitabh Bachchan) is a hard working businessman who has a beautiful family of five. Wife Pratima (Rakhee), who is his inspiration and support, three daughters are Rani, Priya, and Priti (Juhi Chawla), the eldest being papa's favorite, and his only son Ajay (Akshay Kumar) who is studying abroad to get his degree in Information Technology.

Rajesh Purohit (Mohnish Bahl), a business graduate, impresses Vijay Kapoor with his good manner, work-ethic and efficiency. Once solving Preeti's crossword puzzle, they both fall in love and later get married with Vijay Kapoor's approval.
In comes Ajay, right on-time for his sisters wedding, while he is madly in love with Karisma himself. Older Kapoor, against his sons will to start his own business, talks him into getting some experience within the family business first. With their differences in opinions and way of working, the bond of love soon loosens up to a point that they decide to go their own way. While the father is left alone, his own son-in-law Rajesh takes advantage of it and drives him to bankruptcy. Will the son ever come back to save his father and live up to their rishta?
