Biography
In 2005, Twinkle (now Tia), being desperate to become a singer, signed up for an audition on the super-popular music show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa when she was just 17. She was mentored by one of the mentors Ismail Darbar. She made it to the finals of the contest & made an impression on the show, both for her singing and her stand-out looks.
She then participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, a duet singing competition & a special installment of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, and here, she won the Judges Choice Award along with her partner Vishwas.
Post-Sa Re Ga Ma Pa she got her first TV break with Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann for Zee TV. Then she switched to the long-running Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Besides that, she grabbed other offers too and hosted several singing shows for Zee Arabia, a channel aimed at viewers in the Middle East. She also participated in mega talent hunt show Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket that aired on 9X.
In 2011, she made her debut in Bollywood. She starred in Vikram Bhatt?s horror film titled Haunted 3D, which was India?s first stereoscopic 3D movie. Bhatt had actually met her with an offer to produce a solo album of her songs. It was her looks that worked in her favour and helped her landed a role in the film. She also sung a song in the film.
Bhatt was sufficiently impressed by her and signed her on for a second time in Lanka in which she starred opposite Manoj Bajpai. However, the film failed miserably at the box office.
She changed her name from Twinkle to Tia at the instance of Vikram Bhatt as there already was a Twinkle (Khanna), Akshay Kumar?s wife in the film industry. On the personal front the actress thought Twinkle a very childish name and hence decided to opt for another name.
Now, Tia is all gearing up to work in films in other languages as well. At present, she is busy in shooting with Aftab Shivdasani for 1920: Evil Returns which is a sequel to a 2008 film 1920. The film is under production stage, and is scheduled to release on November 2, 2012
